Whew! We made it!!

Kayla, Julia & Austin
After our arrival on Friday night, the group had breakfast and arrived at the Panama Canal by 9 a.m.  We were able to see several ships pass through.  By 11:15 we were on the road heading for Chiriqui Province in Western Panama, where we will be working with Ngabe Indians there.  On the way, we picked up Rhett Thompson, our host and Dr. Barry Kram, who had come to Panama in advance of the team. On the way, we stopped at our mission work site and unloaded all of our supplies there before going on to David.  Today, we are in David and will attend the local Methodist Church.  There we will present them with a gift of several Spanish Methodist Hymnals.  We will then change clothes, have lunch and proceed back to the Cienaguita Mission site to set up for Monday's work.

Good luck with your work, and enjoy meeting all the people, and the chance to see their needs.

  3. I can´t figure out how to post my own entry so I´m just going to add on to Jane´s first post. :) The panama canal was awesome, was crazy to see how ships squeeze through that tight space and are actually floated up from sea level to go through the canal. I´m probably not phrasing that right, but its pretty darn cool. Today was the first day at the mission with the Ngobe Indians. Am so tired, but it was an amazing first day. We saw 60 patients, mostly mothers and children and even an 11 day old baby. Kudos to our 2 doctors, Barry and Tom for not losing their cool when they kids were screaming! Of course, we had to get the screaming children at the end of the day when it was hot as heck and we were all tired and cranky, or maybe I was the only one who was...
Difficult to see some of the children with such preventible problems such as: lice, scabies, and worms/parasites. However, it was good to have been useful in some sense, little as it may have been! Tommorrow is a new day and God is at work down here! Mas palabras mañana por todos mis amigos. ¡Gracias a Dios!
